What is Hormone Optimization and Pellet Therapy?

Hormone Optimization and Pellet Therapy

What is it (BHRT)?

BHRT is a therapy or treatment aimed at replacing naturally occurring hormones that       your body makes and slowly stops making as you age. Bioidentical means that the hormone in your pellet possesses the same molecular structure as the hormone found in the human body! The hormones used in each pellet come from a plant source, specifically soy, and yams. Researchers have found that the steroid ring in these plants is identical to your own, and therefore performs very well in the body.

Why would I choose pelleting over any other method?

Pelleting has been shown to have the least adverse reactions (stroke, heart attack, liver damage, etc) out of all the hormone delivery systems on the market. It avoids the unnecessary risk of clots, there are unlimited dosing options, steady levels of hormones are seen in the blood, absorption is predictable, and it is extremely convenient for patients.

The longevity of pellets is patient-dependent, but most women fall within the 3-4 month range depending on their physical activity level. Men often need to retreat every 5-6 months. This allows the patient to avoid the peaks and troughs of weekly injections, the hassle and mess of creams, and the dangerous side effects of oral delivery systems. The pellet is placed under the skin in the subcutaneous (fatty) tissue on the upper buttock area. You cannot see or feel your pellet under the skin, the procedure itself is painless and is done in less than 5 minutes!

Patient doses are individualized. Hormone dosages are uniquely calculated for each and every patient that is pelleted. Dosing is determined by your specific concerns, symptoms, and bloodwork!

What do testosterone and estrogen help with?

In women, Bioidentical testosterone helps with weight loss, muscle building, sex drive, mood stability, energy levels, and much more. Testosterone is also breast protective, helps build strong bones, improves sexuality and general health, lowers the risk of cardiovascular disease, lowers bad cholesterol (LDL) and increases good cholesterol (HDL), helps with anxiety/depression, is brain protective, and enhances cognitive function. In men, testosterone therapy helps with fatigue, weight gain, loss of muscle mass, brain fog, decreased sexual performance, low mood, anxiousness, and more.

Bioidentical estrogen helps alleviate hot flashes, and aids in mood stability, poor sleep, depression, vaginal dryness, and urinary tract infections. Estrogen is also heart protective, can help improve blood pressure, and reduces the risk for type 2 diabetes.

Do I have to wait until I hit menopause or andropause (declining testosterone in men) before doing BHRT?

Medical providers across the country are pelleting men and women as young as 25 years old with testosterone. We mainly see women after they have completed their families OR approximately around the age of 40. Men can have shockingly low levels of testosterone at any age and do not even know it. After they have completed their families, we can run a simple lab test to determine what age is appropriate to initiate therapy for each individual.

How will I know if I am a candidate?

During your pre-pellet chat, we will discuss your symptoms and medical/family history. If there are no absolute contraindications to BHRT, you will be given a lab slip for bloodwork. At your consultation appointment, your bloodwork and symptom questionnaire will be reviewed. If, during the consultation, it is determined that you are a candidate you can be pelleted the same day.
